Roulette ranks among the most popular gambling games. The game was first played in France at the end of the 18th century. The name of the game is derived from the French word – roulette, which translates as a small wheel. The spinning wheel is divided into 37 or 38 pockets. 18 pockets are red and equally 18 pockets are black. That leaves one or two pockets that are green. The difference in the number of pockets is based on the type of roulette. There are two basic types:
European roulette contains 37 numbers – 18 red, 18 black and one green - 0
American roulette contains 38 numbers – 18 red, 18 black and two green - 0, 00
The layout of numbers is also different on the spinning wheel. The
rules of roulette allow betting on a specific number, group of numbers or colour. Each bet has its own payout ratio. Bets can be divided into inside and outside bets. The difference lies in whether the player bets on a specific number (inside) or group of numbers (outside).
